Review of Suave Naturals Lavender Shampoo With Lavender Extracts & Vitamin B5 - 22.5 Oz

With salon shampoos costing $25 a bottle and up, can an inexpensive line of drugstore shampoo compete with the world of high-priced hair care?

Ok, here's a money-back guarantee, you will like Suave Shampoo or they will give your money ($2.50 estimated retail) back.

The In-Bottle and Out-Of-Bottle Experience

The bottle is the simple, straight-sided no-frills Suave style design. It's clear, showing off the lavender colored liquid. The shampoo smells lightly of herbs and lavender.
Consistency is thin-ish to average.

Ingredients
Purified Water (Aqua), Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, Ammonium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamide MEA, Panthenol, Passionflower Extract (Passiflora Edulis), Lavender Extract (Lavandula Angustifolia), Peppermint Extract (Mentha Piperita), Rose Extract (Rose Canina), Ammonium Chloride, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Tetrasodium EDTA, DMDM Hydantoin, Benzophenone-4, Citric Acid, Propylene Glycol, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Fragrance (Parfum), Methylisothiazolinone, Ammonium Xylene-Sulfonate, Ext D&C Violet 2 (Cl 60730)

Note: No Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (a harsh detergent) but does have Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, which is a bit stronger than the laureth sulfates. The ingredients after pantothenol (vitamin B) are the herbal extracts. Not sure how much herb it represents as extracts could be concentrated--or dilute. Anyway, they smell nice. There is artificial perfume as well. Artificial color.

Performance
Cleans hair well. Not as gentle as creamy shampoos (which you can tell by the color being opaque because there are more emollients.) Seems to require a bit more shampoo than some very expensive brands I've tried. A minor quibble.

I needed conditioner afterward. Perhaps a bit harsh on my hair.

Summary
Suave makes a variety of scents and styles of good shampoos that aren't trendy and exciting but get the job done and are pleasant to use. If you can't see paying over $20 for a bottle of shampoo, or even $10, then the Suave line is one to check out. If you don't like Lavender, they probably have a formulation you will like. Suave makes a lot of products that are widely available in drugstores.
